  Michèle is Swiss, in 2006 she  visited her now ex husband 's  native village of Masanga  and was horrified when she discovered that excision was a tradition there. With the men and the children they made bricks from the river sand and built the school. Accepted as the first white woman in the Bondo Society, she convinced the women elders to keep the ceremonial tradition but traded the excision for education.
